The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) is recognised as the leading certification body for the security and fire protection sectors in the UK. For over 40 years, they have helped protect businesses and homeowners by providing robust, high quality audits of home and business security and fire safety service providers. Businesses and homeowners who choose NSI approved companies have the reassurance that their chosen contractors will work to the highest industry standards demanded by the Police, Fire and Rescue Services and the insurance industry. The NSI story began in 1971 with the formation of the National Supervisory Council for Intruder Alarms (NSCIA). This was created to deal with the problem of poor quality equipment and ‘cowboys’ within the intruder alarm market. The Inspectorate of the Security Industry (ISI) was then formed in 1992 and around that time the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS) was formed from the merger of NSCIA and the Security Systems Inspectorate (SSI). We at Eagle Security saw the benefits of third party approval and received NACOSS recognition and then in 1996 gained our NACOSS GOLD approval for Intruder alarms CCTV and Access control. In 2001, ISI and NACOSS merged to create a unified inspectorate – the NSI, covering all elements of the security industry, with the goal of creating one definitive certification body.NSI extended its scope into the fire detection and alarm systems sector to include the BAFE SP203 scheme. It later extended yet again to cover the maintenance of portable fire extinguishers to the BAFE SP101 scheme - Contract Maintenance of Fire Extinguishers. It briefly ran a scheme for the installers and maintainers of powered gates, barriers and gate automation equipment. The approval scheme is based on the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) Code of Practice TS 011:2018 and was launched in response to industry concerns over poor safety standards and tragic accidents caused by unsafe powered gates, but the gate industry was reluctant to take up the stringent standards. This approval scheme was designed to reduce the safety risks associated with powered gates to as low as is reasonably practicable, giving confidence to buyers in the service providers they choose. Eagle Security was 1 of the few adopt the scheme. The NSI operates a 2 tier approach to approvals Silver and Gold. The Gold standard of certification. Previously refered to as NSI NACOSS Gold holds the greatest value across industry and by the police, fire and rescue services and insurers. Now known as NSI GOLD it is the premier scheme is for companies who consistently meet the industry's highest standards through ISO9000 Quality Management as well as the relevant British and European Standards. Eagle Security chose this route to demonstrate that our business is run in a competent professional manner operating to the highest standards.NACOSS regulates the activities of these companies in their respective areas of operation ranging from specifying, installing and monitoring to maintaining security systems. NACOSS is not a trade association. It has no Members, provides no member services and firms cannot "join" NACOSS by paying a fee and agreeing to abide by certain rules.NACOSS Recognition is conferred on a firm after a programme of rigorous examination conducted by NACOSS inspectors and is designed to investigate a firm's technical and managerial competence in security system installation, maintenance and monitoring.
